Working together to influence social change

We believe in giving back

The importance of giving back to society can’t be understated. That’s because it’s not about what you do for yourself: it’s about how you’re able to better the lives of the people around you, your loved ones and the people in your community. We believe in giving back and building a stronger, more inclusive, more representative community. With this in mind we are proud to partner with The Diversity Trust. The Diversity Trust are a social enterprise who influence social change to create a fairer and safer society. They are an equalities-led and non-profit organisation.

Year 2 Impact Report (view the full report HERE)

In December 2020, Skin Deep and The Diversity Trust CIC took the first step in establishing our partnership. With the agreement signed, we set out to work together to realise our ambitions for positive social change.

The initial focus of funding the work of The Diversity Trust and commissioning joint research, training, publicity and outreach demonstrated a mutual commitment to the agreement, but nobody could anticipate the true impact the collaboration would have.

The learning experienced and relationships developed in the past three years will inform the years to come. Our goals are ambitious and focussed, with a view to develop new, global connections, but also to solidify our existing relationships and celebrate them. We’ve only just begun and together, we’re setting the tone.

Some of the highlights from the last year, for me, include celebrating our 10-Year Anniversary together in Bristol, at the Watershed on a very hot summer’s day in July, and getting back together in October at St Luke’s Community Centre, London, to celebrate our AGM and Away Day. One of the benefits of the partnership has been the opportunity to try out new ideas together in a supportive space. We are stronger together. We share more ideas and learning, more content, and more creativity; this pushes us all to do better, take risks, be bolder. The outcome of this is a stronger, more resilient partnership with a greater impact.

As I reflect on our second year of partnership, what strikes me most is how much we have done without realising we’ve done anything at all. I believe that this is down to the nature of our partnership and relationships. When the partnership was born we had a structured, itemised list of all the activities we wanted to do together; our hopes and dreams limited to how far we were able to see on day one. Having the agility and confidence in each other to choose to work more organically has taken the partnership to new levels – we follow opportunities as they come, constantly reassessing where we can make the most impact and pulling together accordingly.
