The Importance Of A Community

Being part of a community is important because it lets us know that we are not alone. A strong community will be there for you when times get hard.

Within a community, there is a robust support system in place where you can seek advice, guidance and help. A strong community can help solve problems that might be too big for one person to fix, tackle social issues with one united voice.

Why is it important to build strong communities?

Being a part of something bigger than yourself gives you purpose and can be a humble experience to know that you are doing your bit to create a better society for everyone. Being part of a community exposes you to people from other walks of life, people who have a different perspective to you. It challenges your beliefs and ideologies, which can, at times, be uncomfortable, but it forces you to think of others and gives you a better understanding of what they might be going through.

It's amazing to realise sometimes just how bound down we are by our preconceptions and judgements about others, and when those are broken down we realise just how many similarities there are - at the end of the day, we're all people, and we all experience suffering and pain, happiness and sadness, good times and bad times. Being a part of a community means taking all of that on board, in all its beauty and ugliness, and approaching it with kindness and understanding. Walking in their shoes, seeing the world through their eyes, and trying to find a way to move forward together.
